In order for our doctors to diagnose diabetes, they give us a fasting blood sugar test to measure the glucose in our blood. Someone is finally noticing that people who develop retinopathy and heart complications from the disease are being missed because the fasting blood sugar is below what is considered to be diabetic.
So in a "nutshell" that means the damage on the eyes and heart could be already started in people who are only "pre-diabetic" or even below that level.
Hopefully this information will lead to another approach in the diagnosis of diabetes.
I will take it a step further and say that staying as clear as you can from excess or extra sugar could only help further your good health. I am not a doctor so this advice is just what I am taking personally. You should always consult a medical professional before you make any kind of dietary change.
