FACTS ON DIABETES

  • 246 million people worldwide have diabetes.

  • By 2025, 380 million are expected to be affected.

  • In 2007 the five top countries with the most cases are India with 40.9 million, China with 39.8 million, the U.S. with 19.2 million, Russia with 9.6 million, and Germany with 7.4 million.

  • Also in 2007 the five countries that have the highest percentages among adults are Nauru with 30.7%, United Arab Emirates with 19.5%, Saudi Arabia with 16.7%, Bahrain with 15.2%, and Kuwait with 14.4%.

  • By the year 2025 the biggest increases will be seen in developing countries.

  • Every year another 7 million people get the disease.

  • Every year 3.8 million people die from diabetes.

  • Every 10 seconds someone dies from diabetes or diabetic complications.
