EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS CURE FOR DIABETES?

A study was done on mice which involved destroying insulin producing cells and then implanting them with embryonic cells which matured in the body into new insulin producing cells. It worked and the mice ceased to be diabetic.

A small number of them developed tumors, 7 out of 105. It was debated that the number of those tumors could have been cut down if the cells had been purified first.

They then removed the stem cells and the blood sugar of the mice shot up. They say it will be a while before they can start human trials.
