Researchers are now able to prove that weight loss is the key in improving blood sugar levels. People that had Gastric Bypass surgery who lost weight did improve their diabetes by taking less insulin, but doctors assumed it had something to do with changing the way the body handled hormones and such.
Now it appears they are convinced that it's the simple loss of weight that enables the body to control this disease. They have concluded it's important to start losing the pounds 3 to 6 weeks after the bypass surgery to be successful with your blood sugar levels.
Gastric Bypass is not the only way to lose weight. Losing the weight is the key and Diabetes doesn't care how you do it. Just do it, and see a difference in the way you live with Diabetes.

I have type II diabetes and had a gastric band (not gastric bypass) weight loss surgery last November. I have lost 56 pounds and I am no longer taking anything for diabetes.
I needed to lose 70 pounds so I'm still working on it but weight loss does work.
My husband also has type II and he has lost weight too by cutting back on calories and he rarely takes anything to control diabetes.
