Diabetes is the the number one cause of kidney failure, and about 1/3 people who have diabetes, develop diabetic nephropathy, which is kidney disease.
Type 1 and type 2 diabetics have different kinds of kidney problems. Type 1 tends to develop over time, whereas type 2 diabetics almost always already have kidney disease by the time they are first diagnosed with the diabetes.
Always pay attention to your sugar level and keep it at normal levels of 100 or so. Swelling in your face, hands, and/or feet could be signs that your kidneys are failing.
At any rate and as always, if you notice anything different or troublesome consult your doctor or medical professional as soon as possible.
